The Struggle with HER & SHE…

The struggle with her is so real. See there are days that her beauty is breathtaking, her glow brightens the room and her smile makes her irresistible to love. I mean she is the woman we all aspire to be.  Nowhere near perfect, but her imperfections make her beyond so. She is confident, intelligent, hardworking, and quick on her feet. She is focused, knows what she wants, what she is worth, and loves like many wish they could.

She though has days that she does not even know who she is. There is nothing, but a blank stare and a sense of loneness that seems to take over her. She lacks the confidence to even breathe; still, it is better than other days. See on other days the pain and sadness in her eyes bring her to tears. Too many emotions to understand or even feel, but seeing her in someway you do.

The struggle with her, her being the women in the mirror is so so so real. With so much to do and so many expectations to meet, we somehow lose ourselves.  We get caught up in the day to day and begin to put our wants and needs aside. Our career, significant other, children, parents, friends, and all we are “suppose to do” and “care for” take over.  We over-commit ourselves at work to prove that we are capable and worthy of our titles. We say, “yes” to every birthday, bridal shower, babysitting, and everything else under the sun without thinking of ourselves.

As I take on my journey to create the life I dream of, I hope to inspire Queens around the world to do the same. The journey of self-love is never-ending. It's learning that we are not perfect and that's okay. It is learning to say "no" more often and being able to do so without drowning in guilt. It's not beating ourselves up when we forget a birthday, oversleep an extra 10 minutes or skip the gym on leg day.  It's not caring what others think of us and not giving them the power to alter our dreams.

So I challenge you to begin your own journey! To love your self unconditionally! To let go of things you have no control over! Say "No" more often! To trust your intuition! To smile, even on your worst days! To wear what you like! To say what you feel! TO LOVE YOURSELF!

As always Queens... stay beautiful, love yourself and everything else will fall in place!

My Love Affairs With Flats...

Oh my love affair with flat… started around 2003. See somehow I stepped on a toothpick, yes I said a stupid toothpick! It was the summer before my junior year of high school and I had come home from my summer job. I took off my shoes and walked into the living room, where we had a thick shaggy rug. Somehow there was a toothpick and I steeped on it. We didn’t even have toothpicks at home! To make a long story short, the following morning I ended in the hospital and it was like I never left. I had six  surgeries  between that July and April 2003. So clearly high heels have near been my thing. Though I think they are absolutely beautiful and wish I could walk at least to the car in them.  So I began my love affair with flats, always looking for comfortable and fabulous ones to make my outfits. Check out a few I am hoping to add to my collection this fall! Ballerina Flats with Gems (Zara) $ 59.90  Leather Ballet Flats with Blow (Zara) $ 59.90  Printed  Leather Slippers (Zara

Rules of Styling You Must Never Forget!

'Fashions fade, style is eternal.' - Yves Saint Laurent Read more at http://www.marieclaire.co.uk/blogs/542820/the-40-best-style-quotes-of-all-time.html#SYrae4BgEz4L73EZ.99 I had the great pleasure of styling the  award-winning activist, choreographer, and writer,   Mark Travis Rivera ,  for the opening night of  the 4th Annual Six Degrees of Separation: Balance vs. Chaos showcase at  The Actors Fund Arts Center !   When it comes to styling,  whether  someone like the talented Mark Travis Rivera, a friend, or your fabulous self, it's important to keep three rules in mind.  One, style is totally personal! There is no right or wrong, so step out the box and go with what makes you feel good.  Two, accessories are everything! I mean what better way to give your outfit life then with a signature necklace, bag or why not just both?! Three and most important of all, don't forget to wear your  confidence!  It's truly what sets you apart from the rest.
