Thinking of the BIG & TALL ❤ ❤ ❤

I was having a conversation with this amazing teddy bear (heyyy boo!) and realized that though we are more accepting of the plus-size man, the big teddy bear and overall the “big & tall”, their options for fashion are almost non-existent! I thought we had a limited selection as plus size women of stores, designers, fashion bloggers, and so on, but it is enormous compared to the options men have.

As I did a little research, I came across a great article, “Why are there no plus-size male models?”.  Which was something I had honestly never paid any mind to. This article sheds light on the reality of the double standards we have in our society.  Mark Simpson was quoted saying, “Part of the reason why there are no plus-size male models is that there are no politics behind it. It’s not a controversial issue in the same way that it is for women. Men are objectified all the time in the media, but it’s not called ‘objectification’. There’s no male equivalent of feminist ideology.” A sad truth I must admit.

All making me feel that our society if simply full of pure contradictions. I mean think of how we define men and their masculinity. Think of the built of your average football player, an all American sport. What many aspire to be. Think of how teenage boys and "real men" eat and how we encourage them to do so. But then we turn around and have no real representation of them anywhere in the fashion industry. Even if we forget about representation for a minute, where are all the stores and designers that cater to this group of men that we seem to approve of, aspire to be, and admire? It simply makes no sense to me.

I did come across a few websites/blogs, big & tall exclusive stores, and stores with a big & tall selection and I naturally had to share. (Now available on the Retail Therapy” tab too) Hopefully helping you find something he may love or giving him a little more options so he too can have a little retail therapy!
